Default Help!

ok i have a inspiron 1100 notebook that i am helping my friend fix...I put a brand new version of windows on the laptop and now everything is screwed up. For one the monitor is only showing a very small version of what it should be and the CD drive isnt working right...I know it's because i dont have any of the proper drivers but the thing is i have no discs for the hardware and i cant connect to the internet and download them because the driver for the ethernet isnt working either... i tried making a disc from another computer with drivers but the laptop just wont read the disc. is there anything i can do to fix this?

I'm no pro but, put in the windows cd. Go to control panel and click on system and then hardware and device manager. There should be an exclamation mark next to a device that is not operating correctly. Double click on the devices and see that the status says device working properly and that the device is enabled. If not enable it and try it. If that doesn't work, go to the driver tab and update drivers and specify the cd-rom. If all else fails try a system restore.
