I got a new Western Digital 250gig sata hard drive, and a DVD burner thats also sata. I re-installed windows vista and the safely remove icon is always there telling me that my hard drive and burner are removable

If you can see this, you have WAY TOO much time on your hand. Or you're a mod going through my sig. But if you do, copy and past this in your sig.

Nothing to panic about there. Even Vista sees sata type drives more as addon rather then a standard like you would see with an ide drive. By default the Vista installer still looks for the first ide drive when going to install the new version. The safely remove icon seen in the system tray is also seen in XP as well.

You can hide that easy enough by simply right clicking on the Start task bar and going to the notification tab. There you will see the small check box for hiding inactive icons and the customize button to choose between hide when inactive, always show, and always hide. Once you select the option from the dropdown menu you simply click the apply button when exiting there.

When first going to install either XP or Vista that will be seen for awhile until one day it simply disappears when you have a number of icons and decide to hide some. With both Vista and XP running on the new build here both see the same icon in the system tray. It's not a problem when you simply choose the always hide option since it is a normal item for these two versions of Windows.
