lost start menu bar
My friend updated her pc, restarted and now the start menu is gone and can not connect to the internet. She can't get to the Run command to do anything. What could b going on? thanks

it opens but does not connect. And certain programs do not even open like AIM.

no. like if you hit ctrl alt del do you see a explorer.exe?
