What format is Linux compatible with?
If I partition my HD on a laptop, and want to install Linux on one of the partitions. Thanks. And I need a good, easy to understand and use partition program. I need it to make all types of formats. I know about GParted, but I cant find the older easier version. Thanks.

Generally graphical Linux installers (Ubuntu, Fedora 7 etc) all come with an easy to use partitioning system built in. You can partition manage from inside those. The Ubuntu one does it automatically.
Linux is compatible with several file systems although the most common seems to be ext3.
