Default vista or XP? please help

hey

i'm just about to go to university and i need a laptop... but i'm having the hardest time choosing between XP and Vista. i've been told vista has many bugs and problems with it which is putting me off buying it, but as vista is the new operating system XP will probably be out in a few years.

I'm sure this query has come up many times before, but can anyone give me any advice with what would be best to do?

seriously, i hear this all the time, 'vista has bugs' 'vista is crap' etc.
for the most part, most of it is false. vista does have its faults, but none that are obvious to the ordinary user. i installed vista and nothing was wrong with it. nothing crashed out of the blue, and all the programs i installed ran perfectly.

if the laptop your getting can run aero, then get vista.

vista isnt a problem actually, but most users face problems when they try installing some older programs. but it shudnt be a problem . the new service pack shud solve this problem. and the service pack is scheduled to be released by the end of october. atleast thts wat i heard
