Default Diferant DDR2 sticks?

wondering... if i already have one stick of DDR2 533 512mb memory, and i get the same brand/model/speed/freq, just instead of 512mb its a 1gb stick. will there be any down side to putting them together? i know that more ram the better, but im wondering about utilizing the Dual channels?

The best advice for anyone about enabling dual channel mode on a board is to run identical dimms on both channels. In the single mode you can mix sizes of the same make and type without problems for seeing an increase there. For dual channel the best move would be to go for a matched pair of 1gb dimms. Apparently this is for a diifferent system then the Dell in your sig there?

Tell your boss about the recommendation for seeing the best results. 2gb is practically needed when running Vista Ultimate or Home Premium even the Business versions. XP both Pro and Home see a boost when going from 1gb to 2gb there. You should see that running 2gb yourself there.

I think I should also sell my 512 RAM and get 2x1GB.

You could do that if you don't have any old beater case around to tinker with. I still keep a good pair of 512mb Corsair xms series DDR400 dimms onhand for an old Socket A build I want to set up eventually when I can find a replacement cpu and get a 120gb drive loaned out back? That person still hasn't motivated about seeing a sata drive partitioned, formatted, and OSed there.
