Default Cant use DDR Ram at full speed?????!

Hi,
The other day I contacted Corsair support about my RAM because I was experiencing system freezes several times a day. I ran memtest and it was just error after error after error. They told me that because im using more than 2 modules I have to reduce the bus to ddr333. This fixed my problem but why must I do that?? The modules are rated as ddr400 (pc3200). Will the slower memory speed affect my system performance or anything??
Any comments greatly appreciated!
Thanks

BTW This is a quote from the email
memory must be slowed down so that the memory controller can "keep up" with the memory
I assumed the memory controler would be built to handle the speed of the ram?? No?? I dunno

...
Im so confused

Is it in the rig in your sig?

Normally you can run the ram at full speed for anything 2 modules or below. But if your using 3 or more, the speed has to be lowered to allow all the data to pass through. (If that makes sence!)

Have you checked in the bios to see if it running the ram at the right voltage, I,ve ran 4 sticks on that same board at 400.

Thanks for replying.

Yep its the rig in my sig.I kind of understand(I think!)If the ram opperates so fast with more than 3 modules there could be data lost, hence the syste freezes and errors etc....... Thats just my little theory. Im probably completly wrong tho!!!

Well the only info i have about the RAM is this

Storage Capacity 512 MB
Upgrade Type Generic
Memory
Type DRAM
Technology DDR SDRAM
Form Factor DIMM 184-PIN
Memory Speed 400 MHz ( PC3200 )
CAS Latency CL2.5
RAM Features Unbuffered
Expansion / Connectivity
Compatible Slots 1 x memory - DIMM 184-PIN

and the latency 2.5-3-3-8-2T

The 3 sticks are identical.

Im not sure what I should be checking in the BIOS. When i look at all the RAM stuff in the bios theres alot of stuff in it about changin latency and timings etc
IM not sure what the voltage should be so I really dont know what to be changing. Im afraid I might damage something if i go changing settings not knowing what I am doing!!

any idea what volatage I should be running the ram at??
Thanks alot

Depends on what model Corsair they are, but most are 2.5 or 2.6 volts, but some are up to 2.7
