Why would you do it? So you win the auction! Normally people pick a round number as a max bid. If you pick a price that is a little MORE than what you think is a typical round number max bid, your chances of outbidding someone is higher. I explained it above but I'll do it again.

You want a VW guitar, let's say that the max you can afford to pay is $300. This is a very round number, and chances are that other people bidding on the guitar have chosen this ROUND number as their max. So you choose $301 or $300.50 or some UNrounded number like that. Just a little more than your typical max bid. Its the opposite of advertising. How many products have prices of one dollar or one cent less than a round number? The retailer wants $300 for something but they advertise it for $299.99. This sounds a lot cheaper than $300 yet its only one cent difference.

I don't understand. Do they think you're being unfair?? Its slightly different to a real auction due to time being the ending factor rather than outpricing but like you said thats the game. If they really want something they need to get smart and put in a higher bid. People are funny and weird.
