i was just approched by a seller from ebay via email asking if i want to buy the VW guitar i threaded about earlier. as i said, i was out bided, and lost, but now the seller wants to know if i wanna buy it. im suspicious that he may have been milking the bid to get a higher price. i know it is unadvised to do transactions outside of ebay.
here is a censored version of the email: "Dear ***********...You expressed interest on this item. I'm the seller of this item on which you've recently bid on through the eBay system (Item # *************) and I've contacted you because I need to know if you are still interested to buy ... Email me as soon as possible with your answer because I must to know if is necesarly to find another buyer or if you can buy the item(i need to know your final price)...If you accept this offer the eBay policy automatically proclaims you winner. The transaction will go strictly according to eBay's RULES and POLICY and will be supervised by eBay Trust & Safety Department. If you are interested just reply to this message...I am waiting a fast response!...Thank you!" so, what do you guys think. please give me advise on how to get the guitar and not get gypped. thanks guys!

well i've been an ebay seller for about two years(I don't sell a lot of stuff), but if i recall, ebay has an option for the seller to do a "best offer" to a losing bidder if the top bidder backs out. Say the winner bidded $81.50 and u bidded $75 and the top bidder backs out, he can then offer it to you based on your top bid of $75 and your still covered under ebay. The only problem is that this seller seems to still want more than what ur top bid was so your better off just telling him to make a new auction with a bin for a price u 2 agree on. As long as you buy it through an ebay auction your covered, don't do it any other way.
Ps: my post is rather confussing, maybe someone can better explain how to deal with this.

Bottom line- if he is not selling through an auction don't do it.
Tell him if he is going to do it, set up an auction with a private buy it now, at your price. So you can buy it through ebay. Sounds like he is trying to lure you out of the "safety" of ebay.
