Unhappy Toshiba Satellite Pro fault (freezes, zig zag lines on screen & Buzzing)

Hi.

My fiancees Toshiba Satellite Pro has recently started to play up. Every so often when using the Laptop as normal, a buzzing sound comes from it and at the same time zig zag lines move across the screen. As this is happening the operating system crashes and has to be restarted. The Laptop also needs to be unplugged for about 30 seconds before it allows to be switched on again. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I say first step is to locate the "buzzing sound".

The buzzing is coming throught the speakers or headphones.

Default Overheating

Could it be overheating? Would that cause lines on the screen?

Since the sound, and the graphics are all run off the same chipset it could indicate that it could well be overheating of the chipset. Is it intel by any chance?

You mention you think it could be overheating. Have you had problems before, also does the laptop get unusually warm when the problems happen?

If I had to guess, my first thought would be something failing on the motherboard; something power related.

Just a thought, but when does it happen? Only when it's plugged in, on battery, or both times. Or, does the battery still work?
