ok so a friend is wanting to build a new computer just for general use not gaming or anything. He is going to use this cpu http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...116-193&DEPA=0 what would be a good mainboard to go with that for about $80.
Any suggestions??? thanks in advance

Yeah I'd stay away from ECS and PC Chips, you can get many boards for under $80. MSI has a few, Foxconn has a few, ASUS has a couple and Intel has some as well.

PC chips and Biostar are generic brands. ECS is actually a really good brand. I had one of thier hyperthreading boards, that supported dual-channel DDR with the 865PE chipset, and it was the best board you could get for under $100, the only reason that i had to get rid of it and trade for my friend's MSI board is because his board supports Willamette and that one did not.

If you can find an Abit BH7 then that would be a VERY good board to get. It supports 400/533 "bus" speed and takes up to 2 (i think) gig of PC2700 ram. It's got 8x AGP and onboard ethernet. It's a very old board (discontinued) and a little hard to find, but it's very stable for almost anything. If you do end up finding one they are around 40-50$ (I think).
