internet connection problems with certain programs

ok for the past little while i haven't been able to connect to the internet with msn messenger and i haven't been able to update my AVG, i have tried everything to get messenger to work, it says that the firewall may be blocking it, but i turned all my firewalls off plus it wasn't a problem before with the firewalls, but they are defintely not the problem and now my avg won't update, it says something about no connection and says something about the firewall too, i have zonealarm but i don't really use it i mostly have the windows firewall on, and both are off when i try to connect with these programs and nothing is working, what could possibly be the problem? my bearshare and internet browser work just fine

Probably something to do with your MSN. Have you tried uninstalling it and do a re-install?

yes i have tried this and no luck, i tried emailing msn support about it and the advice they are giving is not helping whatsoever
