Default Thread for all my questions! NEW BUILD!!!!

Heyy guys, the people here at CF, have served me well in the past with all of their informaiton and the such, I haven't been on here for a while so its nice to be back (lol).

Anyways I will be building a new desktop withing the next few months, so I figured instead of me searching through threads and reviving old ones I would created a thread for all my questions, I haven't ever built a custom computer, but I do know my way around the inside of a computer, and I know a good deal about mobo's, RAM, CPU, GPU, all that jazz, anyways I am currently writting down a list of all the parts one needs to create a new desktop. Just for my sake I am writting everything down and the such. The list I have is as follows.

LIST OF PARTS

1. Case
2. Cooling system
3. Power Supply
4. Video Card (GPU)
5. Mobo
6. Processor
7. RAM
8. HD
9. Optical Drive
10. Operating System
11. Sound Card
12. Monitor

Anything else I need? I bet I missed a few things along the way. Right now I am just looking into getting a list of what I need to get the computer up and running, I will worry about case mods such ass neon lights and the such latter.

Now I have a few questions I would like to spend no more than 4000 bucks on this whole build, is that not enough money? I will be using the computer for gaming (duh).

So now onto my list of questions

1. Where can I get these parts cheap, for example any other places other than Newegg, tiger direct, and that other one...

2. Where is a good place to get the cases and the PSU and all the such. (second part of question 1 I guess)?

3. Thats it I guess.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Please recomend anything for the above listed parts, I am not really sure where to go, I know whats good and all and I know what I want to be able to do on it, its just a matter of getting them all bought!

thanks guys!

$4000 is probably over what you will need for one good gaming build if you are not going to go elaborate on everything! What is meant by that is going with two $1000 video cards in an SLI or Crossfire setup. Alienware will take your $4,000+ money plus some for building it for you.

For prices those will vary at times from site to site. One example is the prices seen on the Antec Nine Hundred model case. While retail catches some $140- some sales seen were $80 and a subsequent $70 a month later by one retail store with an online site. www.xoxide.com has about the largest selection of pc cases, server cases, full towers, custom styled, etc. over most.

For cooling xoxide.com competes with newegg and www.coolerguys.com on the selection of different types of coolers for cpus, video cards with xoxide seeing air conditioned cases for the high prices on those. One method for seeing who has what for the best is to go to shopping sites that list several different online vendors for softwares, hardwares, and evem OEM for system builders discounts that can quite a bit less then seen at neweeg, TigerDirect, mwave, Directsoftware, etc.. Nextag, bizrate, shopping.com, and others fall into that catagory.

I can't think of any retailers that are cheaper. I bought my entire configuration fron Newegg ($3,725).

Well I am back already, anyways what would you guys recomend for a case that is going to give me enough room for an SLI videocard and mobo to go with it? Also is it worth installing a water cooling system?

Any full tower will do. I like this one.

I haven't tried it yet. Do your research, and see if your comfortable with the installation and maintenence involved with that type of setup. It's suppose to be the most efficient way to cool your components.

hey guys, thanks again for all the info on cases and all the other things! I am actually kind of baffled now as to what kind of PSU would work well in the computer I am planning on building. This is what I have picked out so far. What PSU would power all of the items listed below, plus one IDE HD. Also will I be able to power other items like a water cooler (if I need one) and any other add ons like those cool temp things that go into the CD drive area?

There are several manufacturers that are good. PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, and Thermaltake top the list. For your build, get a PSU with at least 750W, and, at least 60 amps pushing the 12V Rail(s). More amps are better, especially if you plan on running Ultra's.

Modular PSU's are another option. Although I don't believe the verdict is out yet on their efficiency (compared to the standard PSU), I'm sure their pretty good. A modular power supply makes managing cables easier - you only plug in the cables that you need.

Before assuming any one, two, or three brands tops the list why not take a long look at the recent sticky made for pointing out what are the good and the bad as well as what makes and models are best for the type of build planned. http://www.computerforum.com/90118-u...su-guides.html

You will find the information is upto date and quite well prepared when ceewi1 posted this in early July.
