For the past week I have been trying every combination of hardware swapping and BIOS setups (even updated it). The Blue screen of Death still comes up at random load points of windows. I have a new p5b-e asus with a used 775 Pentium (all of which are seen in the BIOS screen), new memory (2gigs), new power supply (500 watts), and a brand new video card. I have even gone as far as checking for screws that might be shorting out the mb. I'm stuck. Let me know of any other piece of information needed, and mean anything (weather outside, or if there were dogs barking in a distant neighborhood, i'm really that desperate and i know i might be asking for spam but again: desperation) THANKS!

That's what i'm trying to do now. I've gotten it to the point where it will be 39 minutes away from being done, but it either hangs up or goes to the BSoD. and that's the best that i've been able to get. Other times it will hang up at 3% of copying windows files or 24%. I've even tried two separate window's xp discs, and even vista (which my mb wont even read for some reason)

Asus boards are very picky about ram. If you have the bio's set up to auto detect the ram, then change it to manual and manually set the voltages for the ram in the bio's.
I have had this problem on a couple of builds using Asus boards. Good luck. |

It sounds more like dying memory. Run memtest86 and get it onto an CD and run it...

Thats the problem, Asus boards suck at setting the correct timings automatically. Like I said before, to correct this, set the timings manually. It's worth a try. I have had to do this on a couple of Asus boards just to get it to recognize the ram. And that's with using factory recommended ram. So imagine the problem if you are not using what is recommended. Thats the main reason I stay away from Asus boards and use Gigabyte when possible. |

I didn't say. I was just saying I like Gigabyte. It's just Asus that sucks! At least as far as I am concerned. I have had better luck with Biostar than I have had with Asus. Last edited by paratwa; 09-22-2007 at 01:24 AM. |

Well the "asus sucks" is pretty true... My slot-1 Asus has problems with RAM... even though it's like 10 years old...
