New build computer will not stay running

My few questions are about the new computer a am building.

I have all the connections set up and everything starts up for about 20 secs then the computer turns off. It still has power to everthing because the led on the MB is lit and the light on the back of the PSU is lit too. The only thing i don't have in the computer is a HD. I never ran into a computer that didn't stay running because of a HD.

I have a watercooling system and the pump is split so it gives power to the pump. i am wondering if there is something wrong with that.

The processor is another thing i am worried about, because this is only the second time i put in a processor, i am worried i could of bent a pin or something.
And would that cause the computer to not stay on?

I know the MB works because without a processor,memory, basically everything, it works and stayed on.

If anyone has any ideas let me know

I just saw a board replaced on a new build here that ran well for the first 3 days and then only saw the fans spin for a few seconds. While bad caps were a likely cause for that to fail I have also considered a bad bios chip being another reason.

The other thought with seeing the board stay on could be a bad cpu or memory that would also generate an audio alert with a beep code heard. The thought here about that is the initial draw on the supply seen at startup is realizing a bad cap in the supply or simply a lack of good regulation. With a cpu installed along with memory there's a larger draw for power. But don't rule out a board problem there.

I found out what is wrong. I unplugged the waterpump and put the Powersw right to the MB and bang it stays on. The waterpump as a low coolant lvl and temp. shut off. It turns off in 4 secs just like the manual says and the sad thing is the coolant is all they way to the top full mark and i got rid of the bubbles. The over heating thing is bull because it turns off after having the computer off for 24 hours and there is no way it gets hot enough within a sec. to kill it.

So my pump is the cause, i have contacted gigabyte though email and so far nothing. I plan on calling them torromow and seeing what i can do. i really don't want to replace everything, so i am hoping i can just send the pump as a core and get a new one for free.

The pump was pulling everything down then. At least now you know the source of the problem and can rule out a bad supply or board there. The cooler itself would be a separate item sold intact. You will probably need to ship that entire setup with everything it comes with to see a full replacement.

Just like with a board they will ask if everything was put back into the box. I know it stinks but what can you do. Those are sold as one complete unit most likely. A board like the one returned here lately has the cables and user manual plus sold retail. If that was retail and not open box then everything will likely be requested by them.

Sucks too beacuse to set up watercooling isn't really the easiest thing to do. *frown*

I just thought about it and i didn't check my VD card, i have the 8800 GTX in my rig and when i turn on the computer,the fan for the card doesn't run.....

Maybe its not the pump maybe its turning off because of a bad power supply or not enough watts to power both the massive VC and the pump itself.

Its a 580Watt hiper so i would think i would have enough to power both but i could be wrong.

Update: I got the computer to stay on longer, the manual tells you to plug in the powersw and the molex connector, the powersw is mostly so it can turn off the computer if it sees a problem in the pump. But it also give power to it and the molex does too. So i called Tech support and they told me to unplug the Powersw and leave the molex in i did that, now everything is working. My VC is going too. I have to put everything into the case like the HD and the DVD rom and floppy and see if everthing is going to work, if it does i will be in bussiness.

The supply has adequate wattage as long as it has adequate amperage on the 12v rails and good regulation you should be back in business. If you still see the card and pump pull the supply down too much then you have to consider a heavier 600-700w supply to meet the higher demand for power. If it comes to that look over the sticky on supplies for choosing a heftier model. Let's see how this goes in the meantime. http://www.computerforum.com/90118-u...su-guides.html

You can thank ceewi1 for the link there since he wrote the sticky.

He can also help point you to a new supply when you are ready for an SLI setup there.

Once you have a make and model in mind shop around for the best when you are ready to buy the replacement. You can save quite a bit at times.
