Here is a list of alternatives that you may want to consider.

Firewall
Zonealarm - http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html
COMODO - http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
(apparently COMODO has a separate Anti-Virus that you can download free but I am not sure about the quality of it though.)

Anti-Virus
AVG - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0
Avira - http://www.free-av.com/
Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html (dnload link is all the way at the bottom)

Anti-Spyware (just in case you need it)
Spybot S&D - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
AVG Anti-Spyware - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0
Spyware Terminator - http://www.spywareterminator.com/
Ad-Aware - http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-200...bj=dl&tag=top5
(you can have more than one anti spyware program in your computer)

Hope this helps.

Comodo is a firewall as well, and two software firewalls working in tandem can cause problems. It's fine to turn the windows firewall off.
