If you buy a 5.1 sound card, then yes.

Thanks for the reply,

but....

Are you sure the motherboard can handle 5.1 channel. I just need to make sure before I spend some more money on the sound card.

And what all things should I consider when buying a sound card. It would be very helpful if you could tell me.

The motherboard doesn't determine what sound card you can use, except for expansion slots, but just about any motherboard made in the last decade+ has PCI slots.

But more importantl, what do you mean by DVD writer? Do you mean just a normal DVD burner that the computer uses (in that case, I don't know why you need 5.1 surround sound, unless you mean you want to listen to 5.1 surround sound from DVDs).

Ya its a regular SAMSUNG DVD writer (burner). Watching DVD movies is the whole idea (not just from DVDs ,but from downloaded files ).

And please help me on the things that I should take into account when going for a sound card.

And thanks for the reply.......
