Default Nikon D40x Digital SLR

Hey all, I'm about to buy a Nikon D40x DSLR from Jessops. I'm fairly set on it already, but just wondering if any members on here have any experience with, any first hand reports on how good it is? The reviews I've read online all say it's fairly amazing.

Any input from photo buffs out there?

you may not want to buy from jessops
there in £50million worth of debt and there not sure how much longer there going to be around
and if there gone you have no warranty or after sales care

sorry i don't know any thing about the camera just that jessops are in deep sh*t

Thats really my only main argument against.

As 4NGU$ said about Jessops, I to would not buy anything from them due to what’s happened recently, I have always found them a bit expensive anyway. I get most of my camera equipment from warehouseexpress.com (really good customer service) and good old ebay. As for the D40x, yea it’s a great little camera which produces excellent images; I have had some experience with this camera and found it good too use, but I found it a little small in my hands. I know that the Nikon D80 is a little more expensive but may be worth a look. It's very similar to the D200. I think that there are some limitations on types of lenses you can use with the D40x, some will auto focus and some won't. All in all it's a good camera for a good price, if you like the feel of it then go for it.

A mate has that camera, it's ok but nothing to exactly warrant the £200-£300 increase in price.

Yeh, i read about that, you just have to make sure of which lens you're buying, but if you ask me, if you buy the wrong lens then you werent paying enough attention. lol

havent heard about that, any proof or reports or anything?

I ordered it today from jessops, this morning before work. Ready to pickup on tuesday, a bit disappointing seeing as i was lead to believe it would be ready the next day, then right at the last second they changed it to tuesday 2nd oct. damn them, but i suppose its not that bad, gives me time to recieve my SanDisk Extreme III SD Card that i ordered from play.com Tis a sexy card

no proof as such but when my photography tutor who has been working in the industry for over 40 years says it doesn't look to good i tend to think he has reliable sources

but what i did hear today is that when companys go down like that the do tend to pass warranties and such like on to other companies so you should be ok if they do go down hill
and as always
i wanna see some photo when you get it

Of course, I had planned to go out in the evening to cover dusk/night-time and get some nice shots on sunday (as it was supposed to be arriving tomorrow) but thats been called off now, so i'll be stuck to my own house/garden/street/electronics until next weekend. Hopefully some nice ones will prevail.
