Default no sound

Hi everybody another newbie.

I have a Gateway comp running windows xp media center, more times than not i have no sound on anything, the pre-installed software is Realtek high definition audio, driver version 5.10.0.5294.In the sound properties it says This device cannot start (code 10).Looked in device manager and there is a yellow warning sign,on the taskbar the volume icon is not there. The only way i can get sound is to shutdown and start again but this does not always work. The comp is only six months old is the sound card on the way out. Also the size of the drivers in the add/remove progs it's 45.5mb,but i have found drivers on a web site and they are 25mb, would it be safe to download these or is there somthing missing. Many thanx

yeh I would advise you to try the other drivers, that may well solve the problem. size isnt a problem. The drivers are probably less than one meg, it'll be including some application aswell.
