Default Laptop CPU questions

Hello,

I am wondering about the different options there are in laptop processors and how they compare with each other.

For AMD, there is the Sempron and the Turion 64 X2.
For Intel, there is the Celeron M, the Pentium M and the Core 2 Duo.

How do these different processors rank against each other in terms of performance running simple tasks (Internet, word, excel, powerpoint and the likes). I assume that they would all be good for such tasks or am I wrong ?

Then, how do they compare in terms of power consumption.

Any processor above an PII can do all that. Of course the Celeron would be last... then the pentium, x2, then the core 2 duos.

1. Thanks, and I assume that the Sempron would rank between the Celeron and the Pentium M ?

2. How about if they were to be ranked in terms of power consumption ?

3. Finally, would it be right to say that the difference between the X2 and the Core 2 Duo is similar to what it is with desktops when it comes to laptops ?

The Sempron is actually below the Celeron M, because the Celeron M is based off of the Pentium M.

I would say the X2 and C2D rank similarly between desktops and laptops.

Sorry if I'm stealing you thread an bit but:

So an Celeron M @ 1.3GHz (Inspiron 1200) is faster than an Sempron @ 1.8GHz?? (Presario V6000 notebook)

the ranking is quite clear, core 2 duo first, then 64x2, then pentium m, celeron m.
