Maybe if you have a shitty processor. In theory yes (if the game maxes out all your cores), but in reality no. A sound card, however, gives you more features like 5.1, 7.1, etc, clearer sound, and a better sense of where the sound us suppose to be coming from.

The X-Fi has a lot of potential. IIRC I remember reading an article stating that the CPU on the X-Fi is as powerful as a 3.4Ghz processor (not C2D's of course).
However you don't really gain too much, and in some instances it may go down.

The X-Fi came out when the Pentium 4 era was around, and they most likely refer to that, just like how all games around the same time always said "requires 2.8Ghz CPU or better".

A real sound card built for gaming will take off the processing from the processor so the processor has more computing power left over for doing other tasks. Company of heros opposing fronts thats just come out, the developers have gone mad and coded it so the game sound will only run on the cpu or a creative sound card making gamers with onboard sound have serious issues with their processor performance. The only cure is a really fast dual core processor or a creative sound card.
About the additional computing power added by a X-fi card, the additional computing power is for sound processing only it's not going to run Ai and game code. Some of the sound coding is normaly done by the CPU in the case of onboard sound. Last edited by CG man; 10-04-2007 at 01:19 PM. |

I don't thonk there can be increase in the fps in games by using a xi-fi sound blaster sound card. It will increase the performance of your speakers let it be of any model or size. Anybody having knowledge about it then please share to help increase mine.
