Exclamation Networking Desktop and Laptop

Hey CF,
I have connected my laptop and my desktop using a LAN cable. my laptop says that it has connected to an unidentified network but my desktop says that it has limited or no connectivity. I have turned on file and printer sharing on my desktop . i have shared my songs folder on my desktop but i cannot access it on my laptop.

how do i access it from the laptop and how do i establish full connectivity?

do you mean you connected the 2 machines directly?
did you use a crossover cable?
or did you put a router/hub in the middle

you need to set the IP address on the 2 machines manually
so set one to be ip
IP: 192.168.0.1
subnet: 255.255.255.0

and set the other to
IP: 192.168.0.2
subnet: 255.255.255.0

that should be enough to connect the 2, you can access the shared drives on machine 2 by typeing //192.168.0.2 into explorer
