Default Get your heads around this one then...

I'm going to scream!

For several weeks my computer game functioned perfectly. I installed it easily using daemon virtual CD and used a no-CD crack to play the game.

Then I bought a burner.

I thought it would be a good idea to burn the game onto CD so that I wouldn't need the no-CD crack. The reason I wanted to do this was because there wasn't a no-CD crack for the latest version of the game which meant I couldn't play online.

Anyway, I uninstalled the game after having successfully burnt the game onto CD. Now everytime I pop the CD into the CD drive a little menu appears asking me if I want to install the game. Great! At least I burnt it successfully and it autoruns when I put it into the drive.

However.

When I try to install the game I get this error message: Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.

Straight away I thought "Looks as though I have corupted the file whilst transferring it from my HD to CD." But then I thought it would be better to to type the above error message into google and see what came up.

I then noticed that several forums had discussed this problem and it appears as though it doesn't neccessarily mean that the file is corrupt. However, after trying several of the suggestions in the forums, I still had the same problem. The only suggestion that did any good was trying to install after a clean boot which helped insofar as the error message came up after the game was about 80% installed: Usually it comes up anywhere between 20%-40%.

I have even tried to install the game from the hardrive because, luckily, the original files were left on there after I copied them onto CD.

I'm strongly suspicious that it could have something to do with the fact that I installed a CDRW two days ago. I never had any problems before that even though I had reinstalled the game several times.

Someone please help!

One very pissed-off gaming fanatic.

If you make a proper backup you wont need ot make use of a silly noCD regardless of whether you mount it with Daemon or otherwise.

To make a 1:1 backup of copy protected games (1) determine the type of protection present using a program called A-Ray Scanner (which can be obtained from http://www.aray-software.com/ ). (2) If the game is protected via SafeDisc2/3 then duplication is highly hardware dependent and to be able to properly make a backup, your burner needs to be classified as "2-sheep" (for information on this sheep rating and to see if your burner qualifies as 2-sheep, visit http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/45121 ). If your burner is a 2-sheep burner then head on over to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/23699 for a step-by-step on backing up your game. If however your drive is a 1-sheeper, visit http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/36444 for a workaround technique. (3) If your game is protected with SecurROM then, even though it is not nearly as hardware dependent as a SD2/3 backup, having a 2-sheep burner is very useful. For step-by-step guides on backing up your SecureROM protected game, visit (using Alcohol120) http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/43802 (using CloneCD) http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/26771

Autorun does not mean proper backup -- never has for major games -- never will

How fast did you burn it? Try burning slower.

ASPI? IRQ conflict?

I just found this in my magazine, PCWorld: find.pcworld.com/42782

What the mag. says:
"anyone who has used CD-R/RW media knows it's not foolproof. CDCheck identifies any files that are damaged or corrupted, and retrieves them for safekeeiping. This helpful utility will also let you check the continued health of other PC files viewable through windows explorer"

EDIT:::
i forgot to add that it's free too...

Also note that the slwoer you burn the disc the less chance for C1/C2 errors.... its not so much the C1s you should worry about as the drive will compensate ... C2s are the ones you want to deal with

I think I burnt it at 12x using Nero. I have come to the conclusion that puters are nothing but a big bag of trouble! Useful though

LOL its not computers... game manufacturers specifically try to make games difficult to copy (for obvious reasons) but it's still doable if you have the right stuff. Nero is certainly not the right stuff to be able to handle SafeDisc2 protection (currently the top protection is 3.20 and the last revision Nero can backup is SafeDisc1)... see my intiial reply if you want to make a backup.
