Default Can I use "Hibernate" to replace "Shut down"??

Can I use the option hibernate to replace shutdown in windows COMPLETELY?
Because weak up from hibernate takes much much shorter time than starting the whole system, if I keep my laptop doing this for long period, for example, one or half year. I just let it hibernate when I dont use it, but never shut down, is there any problem with doing this? any possible damage to computer?

As ive mentioned in other replies, Im hardly an expert, but I can say from experience that I do the same thing, only I run my laptop as a desktop with an external monitor/keyboard/mouse. Ive done this for a long time, probably close to a year, and never experienced any problems or data loss. So go ahead and hibernate that beast!
