Default Window 2000

My friend’s PC had Windows ME and I upgraded it to Windows 2000, because some of the new hardware was not working. This did not help, so I then tried to do a clean install of W2K, but lack the experience in doing this. I now have windows 2000 twice on my hard drive. One is the upgrade form Windows Me to W2K and the other one is on a partition I believe. The one on the partition worked fine for a while and so did all the hardware, but now the second W2K is malfunctioning. The desktop icons have disappeared and I don’t have a start button. How can I fix this mess if at all? Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks

Ed

If you lack the experience to get in and play around with partitions to get everything back to normal, my advice would be to do a clean install. I would copy all of your personal files to a CD or other Hard Drive then delete everything on the Hard Drive you have now and start fresh. Take your time and make sure you understand each step of the install process. I'm not certain about the actual process for Win2k, but if have the option to delete partitions, I would do it and format everything.

Thanks, I was researching it and that's what I read on what needs to be done.

Have a good day.
