Default Mid-range laptop for grandparents?

This Christmas, we plan to get a laptop for my grandparents. We're looking to spend around $800 max. Of course it doesn't need to be super powerful as they'd mostly be surfing the web. However, I also want one with decent battery life and one that doesn't get too hot. Probably about a 14" or 15" so it's still easy to carry around, but not too small.

I've seen a couple that caught my interest. I know Circuit City had a compaq for about $600 that looked pretty nice. However, I checked some reviews and people complained about heat and the battery life...

I recall Omega (I think) posting a $299 laptop. It showed up as $350 here, but I don't care for gateway nor did we care to get the absolute cheapest thing around
