Default Asus A8sx

Hi,

Just a little help for someone that doesn't know a whole heap about MBs and Processors.

I have a 'Generic' PC setup with an Asus A8SX Motherboard. It currently has a "Sempron" 2300+ (about 1.6 GB) processor and i want to get some more processing going on... What the highest (Gb) processor that canb be used in this motherboard? Does it have a 'universal type' pin arrangement, or do I have to have a specific type of connection on the processor?

Also, is it simply a matter of turning everything OFF and simply changing the processor and rebooting?

Thanks for any help or advice...

You could drop a AMD 64 x2 4200 CPU in there and get a huge increase. It looks like your mother board supports that chip.

You might have to flash your bio's and install AMD's dual core support file. AMD Dual-Core Optimizer

But all you need to do is turn your system off, undo your heat sink fan and remove the old chip. Install the new one with some new compound and then your fan. Clear the cmos and reboot.
You might have to go into your bio's and clear the cpu settings.

But that's it.
