Default Spyware Problems (Hijack This)
Ok, my uncle brought me a PC from a client of his for me to clean up for an easy $50. I figured it would be a cake walk, but it's giving me troubles. I've ran Spybot S+D multiple times, Ad-Aware 2007 multiple times, Spyware Shredder, AVG Anti-Spyware, and AVG Anti-Virus and I'm still having no luck. Spybot cleared up a PC I worked on a while back that was practically having the exact same problem, but it didn't do the trick for me this time. Here is a screenshot of basically what the problem is.



This comes up and when you close the window or click ok, it tires to direct you to virusprotectionproonline.com.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a RiskTool; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between good and malicious use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Please reboot to Safe Mode (tap F8 just before Windows starts to load and select Safe Mode from the list).

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter to delete infected files.

You will be prompted :
"Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer Yes by typing Y and press Enter in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer Yes by typing Y and press Enter.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply after you've completed the remaining instructions.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Once done, please disable PestPatrol, as it can interfere with some of the fixes we will need to make. You can re-enable it after the system is clean. To disable PestPatrol:
  • Open PestPatrol Anti-Spyware
  • Click Advanced Settings then Stop Active Protection Now
  • Click Apply then OK

Please run HijackThis and choose Do a System Scan Only.

Place a check next to the following entries (where still present):Please close all open windows except for HijackThis and choose Fix checked

Please reboot, and post:
  • The contents of the Smitfraudfix report, located at C:\rapport.txt
  • A new HijackThis log

I also notice that you have two antivirus programs in the log - AVG and CA. Multiple antivirus programs can conflict with each other, causing significant problems. Please remove either AVG or CA.

This exact type of malware is spreading like wildfire at the moment, it seems everyone has got it

btw. I used SmitFraudFix to get rid of it as well and it should work

Excellent, your logfile now appears to be clean. Are you still having any problems?

I notice you are still running two antivirus programs. I would strongly recommend removing either CA or AVG, as they can conflict with each other reducing the effectiveness of your antivirus protection.

Yea, it's running fine now, thanks a lot ceewi1. I'll take of one of the anti virus programs this evening as I'll probably return the PC tomorrow.
