Default Making a forum...

I want to make a sports forum.... How do I go about doing so? I plan on having quite a few members, could I host on my home server? How do I build it?

Thanks

easy. i am working on one now for my school. all you need is a) a computer b) linux c) phpbb d)internet

That is all you need. just install linux (i use fedora) and "install" phpbb. it is very easy and it comes out great. if you need help my im in in my profile

and yes you can use your one server. just need to open a port. and no cheese, he is making how to make a website. not a forum... i think

If you can see this, you have WAY TOO much time on your hand. Or you're a mod going through my sig. But if you do, copy and past this in your sig.

What exactly does it do? WYSIWYG interface? How does it help me? Do I design the interface in it?

Thanks

it is hard to explane. it gives you a basic forum that you add the forum topics too and coustimise it.

I have never set up a forum, but the best looking ones I have seen, and the easiest to use all seem to use vBulletin software. Including the CF forum.

http://www.vbulletin.com/

Also, I think having it hosted some where other than your computer is a good idea. Having to leave your system on all the time sucks, and if some company hosts it, they do the back ups of all your data, so if something crashes they can restore it.

Perhaps someone could give me the requirements of space that I will need to store posts/threads. What about like Administrator stuff and the database? How does all of this work?

Thanks
