Starting to feel real stupid

Good Morning. I purchased Vista Home Premium and installed it thinking it was 64 bit. It isn't. I ordered 64 bit DVD from Microsoft. The 64 bit DVD is not seen in my DVD drive at boot-up, nor can I access the DVD once I have 32 bit Vista running; it says something like the disc is not compatable with my operating system. Those are the only two ways I know of starting a boot-up program. Does anyone understand what is happening here and have a suggestion? Thanks. Gary

Erm. You pop the DVD into your drive and it doesnt boot correct? From the POST part or from Windows?

That's right. I place the DVD in the drive (It's the same drive I loaded the 32 bit version), restart the computer, and it simply reboots in the already loaded 32bit version. The drive just ignores it. If I go to COMPUTER and double click on the drive, it lists the contents, but when I click on SETUP, I get a window that says: "The version of this file is not compatable with the version of Windows you are running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

I play other DVD's in that drive...music, games, etc.

go into youe bios and change start up items to #1 CD/DVD #2 HDD than insert your dvd and restart.

Or your 64bit dvd is an upgrade disc not a full format disc if it is reinstall winxp and upgrade to your 64bit vista.

Well...... I appreciate the responses, guys, but, uh, it seems I don't need it any more. My wife walked in, saw my frustration, and asked what was up. I was trying to explain to her (and showing her at the same time) when I placed the DVD in the drive, restarted, and it booted up correctly. I did absolutely nothing different. This was at least the tenth time that I tried it that way, and for some unknown reason, it worked this time. Thanks any way guys. see ya around!

your bios is whack. i bet it has little gremlins that randomly change the boot order now and then...
