I'm looking for advice from more knowledgable people than myself. I plan on buying a gamimg computer in the next couple of weeks. I play World Of Warcraft and my current computer is nothing special. I want a quality gamimg computer that will allow me to experience WOW at the highest level possible. My price range is roughly $2000 - $2500. I have a few questions:

1) I'm looking at the Alienware Aurora or Area-51 (other recommendations appreciated)

2) Proc: Core I7 920. Good enough?

3) Video: There are several options as far a video cards as well as option for dual cards. I will be using single monitor. Any particular brand and model number I should look for?

4) Ram: I was thinking about 12 mb. Is that over kill?

5) Audio: A couple of options here from Alienware. Integrated being standard. Soundblaster X-fi Titanium is their top of the line. Should I not skimp on audio?

This will be a major purchase for me so I would like to get something that can be upgraded in the future.

Thanks for the help.

My front microphone jack recognizes when a microphone is plugged in but does not receive any sound. Just a few days ago the jack was working fine with the same microphone. The rear jack still works fine.

Did something get knocked loose? Or is it possible I clicked some stupid setting?

Hello folks,

I created this thread to get your opinion on few things. I have been driving for over a month now, done about 2k miles without any collisons or losing control of what is happening. Thats said, I can not say I am an experienced driver, it takes years of driving to get to that stage. There are few things that are really making me think, "What the heck are you doing?" A few days ago, I had to follow a 80 year old woman in a BMW 530d (I know diesels are slower but still) for about 10 miles, shew was doing 35mph on 60mph road. There was no chance of overtaking since there was traffic coming from the other side. And here I ask myself a question. Who is more dangerous, a young person doing 55mph or a 80 year old person, with slow reflex and doing 35mph? I think there should be a reflex test to go with your driving test.

I had even more dangerous situation tonight, I was driving back from work, it was already dark and in my rear view mirros I saw about 4 guys on bikes with the full beam on. Anyone who ever drove at night knows wat I am talking about. I decided to slow down and let them overtake me, since most of the motorcycles don't care about speed limits anyway. They past and I flashed my full beam to give them indication that they should switch theirs off.
You won't believe what them imbeciles did. They slowed right down, so I overtook them, and they followed me home with the full beam right behind. I had to reposition my mirrors to get rid of the glare. How stupid can you get? I mean come on......I thought, do you want to play this game? I just drove home at 20mph since I couldn't see properly.
Another thing. Signalling. How hard can it be to signal your turns, I mean geez. Especially at the roundabouts. I signal every turn, it is a habit now.
One more thing. Around UK there are sign, "Think Bike". What government doesnt realise that 3/4 bikers drive like maniacs. I havent seen a biker to driver within a speed limit. The are trying to protect them from cars, they should protect cars from bikes.
Another thing. Tailgatting. How many times have I been tailgated by a big lorry. They just sit at your back, giving you no view of the road behind you and making you feel rather scared.

You will probably think that I am one of those people that got a car to attract girls and show off. I use the car to get me from A to B. I dont tune it up. I wash it a lot since I like doing it and I like my car to be clean. The only thing I changed in my car was the brake pads, since it is dangerous to drive with crappy brakes. I know my and my car's limits. I can judge the speed and adjust to type of sitation. Maybe that's a talent or something, but almost every person that was in my car say that I drive like a guy with years of experience.

P.S. I am not trying to make myself look good...

Cheers!

Hey All,

I recently (last month) built my first machine. I asked around to compile a list of parts that would be compatible, ordered them, and built away. I took quite a while for me to finally get everything together, drivers updated, etc. etc.

What I'm running: (If you need any more specific details please let me know)
- Windows 7 - 64 bit
- ASUS P7P55D-E LX Intel P55 mobo
- Intel i5 x4 @ 2.67GHz
- 4GB ram
- HIS Radeon HD 5870
- 23" ASUS HDMI Widescreen Monitor
- 19" Dell monitor (older)

Basically, I have one last issue - my screens "flicker", apparently when the machine is under a load (it's mostly fine when I'm just browsing the internet and stuff; however, when I play a game, WoW or Heroes of Newerth, it flickers). It's not frequent enough to make it unplayable or unusable, but it is extremely annoying.

- I have updated all my drivers(I believe)
- Updated BIOS this morning
- Looked at temps in BIOS, they appear to be fine; although, my graphics card doesn't seem to be listed.

I have no idea where to go from here. My experience is pretty limited. I appreciate any help, thanks in advance!
