I'll try to be as brief as I can here, but please bear with me :o

A couple of days ago, I was transferring data from my computer (Dell Inspiron 6400) to my phone via USB however the data transfer was very slow so I clicked to cancel the file transfer. Little seemed to be happening so I logged off, but after 15 minutes Vista still showed 'logging off...' so I closed my laptop lid in an attempt to put it into standby/sleep mode as it was getting late. I turned the plug off so the laptop was left running on only its battery overnight, and in the morning I plugged it in and pressed the power button, to be greeted with this sound from my laptop (on closer inspection, I realised it was from the hard drive, which is a Western Digital WD1200BEVS): http://www.mediafire.com/?2crmnyoilzw (if you cannot play the file, it is basically 15 sets of 3 beeps, two low then one higher, if that makes sense ) The screen looked like a black screen of death, with the text saying something involving 'no bootable drive'. There was no primary hard drive listed under the BIOS, and the DST Short Test failed with the Dell error code 1000-0141. I have contacted Dell but they weren't willing to help because the drive is out of warranty :(

I have since bought a new hard drive, but I am wondering if there is any way that I can salvage some of the important files off of the broken one, e.g. by opening it up, if it is a mechanical problem (I'm not sure what the beeps mean...). I have tried the freezer method but the beeps still occurred.

I am not very skilled with things like this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

After using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to get rid of two malwares, "System Defender" and "Antivirus Plus," my system has a few problems, including:

- Windows setup claiming there are no hard drives connected, when using my Windows XP CD to boot (despite the fact that I can start the computer as normal when booting normally, using the hard drives it claims to not detect)
- Random restarts
- Seem to be connected to the internet but no applications can connect, as if I'm not connected

What can I do? Is there a fix to problems such malware may have left that cause such things?

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and AVG both show that there are 0 infections found. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware does, however, tell me, every 10 minutes or so, that it has successfully blocked access to malicious IPs, as if the previous malwares are always still trying to infect me, despite seemingly being gone.

Hey all,
Just reformatted a computer and ran into a problem while installing windows xp media edition. At about 18 minutes remaining it asked for a service pack 2 cd in which I didn't have. So I skipped it, it was just looking for the internet explorer. So once the installation was finished all thats missing was internet explorer. When I broke open the case to check out what kind of motherboard it was there was no label in sight. So I downloaded and installed cpuz and it said that my motherboard was a 760GX-m. I went to download all the drivers but even after installing the Lan Driver (Realtek 10/100/1000 PCI NIC Family Driver) I cant get any internet. What Am I missing. Without any internet I cant update windows, and get this computer rolling again. Any suggestions or ideas would be well appreciated and tried.
Thanks a lot,
I've only lived in one other country in my life, it was germany. I really liked it, but I would still say the USA is a better country to grow up in. In Germany their is not an "american dream" when anyone can get ahead with hardwork, but then again Germany is a safer more beautiful country.

America also has great vacation spots, thats why many americans dont have passports... but we do have shit food, and we are fatasses

THE best thing about german was HEALTHCARE, I never got screwed over... that is a big plus!!!
