When you set it up for a BIOS password it also asks you for a normal word password to use as a backup plan.

The bad part now is that i don't remember what my password 'word' is. I have been using the fingerprint reader at power on for several months and I still do. But I would like to disable the BIOS fingerprint because my IT person complained that if I wasn't around they couldn't access my computer.

I can get into it with my fingerprint but it doesn't allow me to change the BIOS settings without the 'word' password.

We thought that everything was fine, until we received a call (today) from our daughter. The laptop keeps shutting down and restarting - on its own. It wasn't doing that here, and we have no clue as to what might be causing it to act like that at her dorm. Buying her another laptop is out of the question, as we are not financially positioned to do so.

I know that there is not a great deal of info to offer, regarding what's going on, but I hope that someone might be able to share something as to what the causative factor(s) might be.

It is a "16" HD/BL" display.

Contacted ASUS concerning repairs and was told impact damage isn't covered by warranty (kind of expected it) and that repairs would cost around $800-$850 plus labour. Considering that i only paid $1250 for the laptop in the first place I'm really not seeing the point of going through ASUS in order to try and maintain my warranty. Just wanting to get some input on some of my other options if any. Is it practical (or possible) to try to repair it myself or are there any 3rd party companies that would do something for cheaper?

Ever heard of the Toshiba Satellite A100? Well it sucks. The old A100 was my old notebook with a waping 1.6 ghz processor and 1gb of RAM. THAT SUCKS!!!. Therefore i went on the look out for a decent laptop with over 2.0 ghz and 2 gbs of RAM and hopefully a graphics card that wasnt a stock intel graphics that was going to get me no where... all this for approx. $450.00??? In my view i was lucky... Walmart, last Laptop on the shelf, Compaq Presario CQ62 with such a slick look i had to take a look at it. The specs for what i was in search for was just amazing. With a 2.2GHz AMD V-Series Processor this device has just the right amount of power and functionality, to top that off a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 gpu which will run the basics very easily. This device does come with many other features that improve the functionality but it has its down sides too. One of the cons about this Laptop is that it only has 2GBs of RAM but is expandable with two slots to 8 GBs I smell 4 gbs of RAM coming into play in the future. Another con is the amount of work it takes just to get started with this PC, this computer comes pre-installed with many programs by HP that are really not needed. The only program that i like that came pre-installed would have to be WINDOWS 7 :) and there were a couple of others that were good but most of them had to go. Itīs an Acer, but I donīt know what model. I downloaded a program from Utorrent and when I installed it, it restarted but never booted up. All it says is "DXQSN is compressed" and then underneath it says "Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart". Iīve done that and it just comes up again. If anyone knows how to solve this I would love to know how to fix it.
