For Mac users, we haven't had much of a choice as far as overclocking and voltage adjustments. However, the one thing that we do have is a program called Coolbook ($10).

http://www.coolbook.se/CoolBook.html

I've used this since Summer 2007 on my Macbook as well as my 13" Macbook Pro. I originally bought it because my 1.83Ghz Core Duo Macbook ran at 80+C while folding. For $10, it is a steal.

I hadn't fully optimized my 13" MBP's voltages until last night:

Blue lines are the stock settings, green lines are the new settings!

Blue lines are the old settings, green lines are the new settings for every graph except "Performance per frequency" which is Geekbench and CPUTest performance relative to frequency.

Adjusted Temperature is the fan speed times the temperature.

CPU Watts were read through iStat Menu, temperature was the CPU temperature diode via Temperature Monitor. Coolbook was used for adjusting voltages. CPUTest (Free, also made by the same person as Coolbook) was used to stress test.

Conclusion:
I give Coolbook a 5/5 rating--it's easy to use and incredibly useful! Battery life increases ~20% at max load--on my 13" MBP, this is 2:09 vs. 1:46--an extra 23 minutes of battery!

I recently purchased a new power supply after it was suggested to me on here that, that could most likely be the main problem.

My pc was suffering from random reboots/freezing and after getting and hooking up the new power supply I still have the same problem, although not as bad.
Now my computer will at least get to desktop and even sometimes allow me to get online for about 10mins before it freezes up.

Can anyone suggest what could be the cause?

The drivers are updated and I dont think its freezing due to overheating because the computer and all its components inside are still cold when it freeze's up. I know the power supply is the correct one because I ended up purchasing the same type which originally came with the pc and that lasted a few years with no probs.

However, now im interested in overclocking my RAM. I have the corsair dominator 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) and I would like to know what voltage is safe?
What timings should I try?
How the FSB affects the RAM speed?
and any other piece of information that you think is important.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out with this!!

OK, I toyed with this already and had a few crachsed here and there. THought I knew what I was doing because I got an O.C. ing CPU book, but havent' had any good stable results. This is my goal: 3.8GHz while being solid, stable and safely cool.

This is my system(if you have not read my other previous threads):
Asus M4A78T-E MOBO
AMD Phenom 2 X4 CPU 955 B.E. 3.2 GHz
Zalman CNPS 9900 LED C.F./H.S.
(running at 39-42C under normal and max 45C under torture testing at default settings)

Don't wanna toy with ram or VGA right now, just CPU.

These are my uptions under A.I. Teaking in BIOS:
CPU Ratio
CPU Bus
DRAM Frequency
CPU/NB Frequency
HT Link
CPU Voltage
CPU/NB Voltage
CPU VDDA Voltage
DRAM Voltage
HT Voltage
NB Voltage
NB 1.8v Voltage
SB Voltage
CPU Spread Spectrum
PCIE Spread Spectrum

What should I change, and set at what to achieve my goal?

I wanted to figure this out on my own or through research, but has not proven to be very good.

The minimum Processor Speed for the software is Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz [EMT64]
Recommended is Intel Core 2 Quad Core Q8400 Yorkfield 2.66GHz

I have Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.00GHz on my laptop now

Just based on the GHz of the three it would seem that my computer wouldn't be able to handle it. But then again I don't know anything about this stuff. I know I don't have the recommended speed, but do I at least have the minimum speed?

I have tried (and succeeded so far :D) to overclock by increasing the FSB, considering I have a locked (not Black Edition) chip. I have managed to increase the FSB from 200Mhz to 220Mhz so far. I know for sure that I can go farther because my system runs stable and cool, even under 100% load (~36-40c). I have the ThermalTake Big Typhoon Cl-P0114 cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106061 (Which is the best cooler that I have owned so far!)

Before I overclock more, I wanted to know what the recommended and maximum temperatures for my processor. I can't seem to find them. Thanks. :)
