hi
a friend of mine has a hp pavilion dv6-2043us but it doesn't charge anymore! the "smart pin" on the charger input is broke so my guess is thats the reason but he wants to know if there's any way how to fix it without buying a new charger!

So the charger itself is broken, or is it the DC Jack on the machine?

If it's just the charger, you can't fix it. You have to fork up money for a new charger.

If it's the DC jack on the machine, you have to dismantle the machine and determine if it is soldered to the mobo or if it is just a wire going to the board.

well the charger should have a pin in the input to the laptop, right??? but it doesn't so i thought that could be the reason for the problem but now he told that a couple times when he removed the battery and pressed the charger input hard agains the laptop it had received power so can it charge receiving power without having a pin and the problem might be inside of the laptop???

If he's able to get it to power on without the battery and just the charger than it sounds like it's the DC jack inside the laptop.

The pin inside the jack is essential part of the adapter, so it's quite reasonable that it won't work as it should if that part is missing. I mean, that the jack itself cant provide sufficient voltage to laptop and there's your problem, I think that they sell universal adapters in most of the electric supplies store, you should get one there.

NO! Never buy a universal charger! You run the risk of frying your laptop with it. Always go genuine laptop manufacturer with a charger.
