My screen resolution and refresh rate changes randomly with every restart.

As topic says my computer has been acting weird... It changes resolution and hence changes refresh rate with every restart or account switch !!!
and the funny thing is .... check this out.

Pffftt....Like my screen or video card can display that resolution !!!
and when I try to change it back to normal resolution and refresh rate, it changes the resolution but not the refresh rate.

I have a 17" CRT Samsung SyncMaster 793s and a Radeon 9550SE

Have you made sure that your monitor is connected properly, I get that problem too, but I found out that my connection was loose, so although it had a display some other pins might not be making contact, for example there is a pin that carries your monitor's info, that's how XP knows what monitor you have and what refresh rates it can support. Looking at your screenshot, which says Default monitor, I think that pin is loose that's why.

Reconnect your monitor tightly and see if that helps.

I would say you have a rather different one there Shady! Have you installed any of the recent Catalyst versions? About the last version that would support that model card was the 5.11. The newer versions are wirtten for cards in the Xxxx line not the 9xxx. The 9250 is a discontinued model. The problem there is primarily software and one place for finding the older catalysts for the older model Radeon cards is at http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=18

I don't know if it's a driver issue, I mean I had this windows installation for like 2-3 month with no problems.
Why now ?

Excuse the slight typo since I ran a Radeon 9550 256mb AGP card on the last build. But I never came across any problems with refresh rates or screen resolutions.

This is the first I have heard of a 9550!!! Its not a very mainstream card.

It's better known then you realize. It also has the same chip as the 9600 model did.

It's software related with the 3200x1200? Have you made any other software changes other then updating the catalyst and drivers for it? I would try uninstalling the current software and drivers and going with the 5.11 version at the link posted. That worked the best on the ATI model here. You may be having a driver conflict with something else on the system.
