Basically, i would like to change my fan. About the multi-meter, a google search showed that it helps drain the charge of the PSU. I don't have any fancy wriststraps or anything, so is it ok if i change it?
Or do fan's in PSU's get controlled by a temp. sensor? Would this be a problem? Is soldering involved? Thank you.

I did some more research, and it has been done, but i do not have a multimeter or psu tester or anything to check for charge. It's rec. that i wait for 24 hours...is this true?
Also with my PSU, the fan sound isnt always there, it's silent for about 10 minutes from a cold boot-up, so i'm guessing there is some type of sensor, right? Is there a way to move the sensor? Also, some people are talking about soldering (i can't do this) so is it a must? Thanks alot!

Hey bigfella, i've seen your posts around on CF alot, and i wanted to start a thread, but i figured this is quicker. The way your posts are, i know you are extremely knowledgable when it comes to power supplies, so i am wondering:
I have a 500W Cooler Master psu. The fan is the loudest thing in my system...is it possible for me to change it without dying?
with regards to the PAE thing on windows, i spoke to a colleague who an ms certified tech, and he said that PAE is still supported, and the thing about kernel drivers is bs, as his company operates a server which runs with 64gb of ram under server 2008.
