Asus X205TA Windows 10 update issues

I posted a couple of thread about this little machine. My objective is to upgrade to Windows 10 because I don't want to be left behind. But the limited 32gb emmc posts a problem.

My first concern is to be able to restore to the old OS. Windows 10 has that facility, but not for the small storage, which is not enough to hold the old and new in one place. That's why I need to get a recovery/boot device working first. I am not having that ability. Oh, BTW, I have given up using Macrium imaging for this machine because the overhead is high and I don't have much to lose on this small emmc.

I have found a web post that explain upgrading with this machine in detail. I am going to give it a try, after I deal with my main machine.

you can always do a factory restore if you want to revert back to 8, or just create a system image on a usb drive or other external storage

I used the Asus Backtracker to create a system backup/boot device. I think it will restore the machine back to factory setting.

I upgraded to W10 finally on the Asus X205TA, after numerous trials.

The first thing I noticed is the USB ports not working. Chatted with Asus support and they told me to run the chipset drivers update from their website. That was the same chipset drivers for 8.1. Ran it and the USB ports came back to life. But within minutes, they are gone again. Tried it about three times and confirmed that it is a persistent problem. Tried to get support from Asus again, but they basically said "it is Windows 10, you're on your own, contact Microsoft".

I let it sleep for a while. Then it dawned on me that the chipset driver is an Intel Utility product. I went to Intel's website and search for chipset drivers update. I downloaded an utility that analyzed what the X205TA needed. Sure enough, it directed me to a download that is compatible with Windows 10. Ran it and, bingo, the problem is fixed.

Up until they shut me off, I thought that Asus's support was pretty decent. I don't know if it was just ONE bad apple (tech supporter), or the whole tree is rotten.
