USB memory not recognized

I'd just purchased 3 16gb Toshiba memory storage (usb 3.0)

In my Windows 8.1 machine, File Explorer doesn't show the drive. The machine flash the message that the USB port was activated.

I am able to see it in Disk Management. But when I tried formatting it, I got error message "Unexpected Error occurred". I have ruled out the USB ports not working.

When I plugged it into the Windows 7 machine, it recognized it.

Please help.

some motherboards simply aren't compatible with some USB drives.

1. test it in another computer
a. if it works, you may not be able to use it with that motherboard
b. if it still doesn't work it's likely that the USB died

There are 3 in a package. All 3 do not work on the newer Toshiba Windows 8.1 I have ruled out that the USB ports were defective.
They work in the older Window 7.

yea thats weird.
try uninstalling the USB drivers and rebooting the computer (reboot automatically reinstalls those) while using Windows 8.1

if that doesn't work maybe update your bios. but past that idk what I'd do.

Yes, I have tried other devices on the ports and they worked. I also tried updating drivers but it did work. According to Toshiba, my BIOS is up to date.

Hell, it is not worth all this trouble. I called Bestbuy (waited 40 minutes) and got a return label.

I think I am going to pick up a 3-pack 16gb SanDisk USB from Costco.

Install the Asmedia USB 3 drivers or equivalent to your board. If unsure download PC Wizard, go to file, save as and click ok to save a text file. Post it here.

Also, do you have any red or yellow flags in Device Manager? If so, update drivers, mannually and point to your windows 7 installation. Press go.

Sent them back to BestBuy already.
Picked up 3x SanDisk USB 3.0 16gb from Costco. It works, as it should.
Love the Encryption Vault.
