questions about uploading something to a server

Hi I have subscribed a server that provide paid service of uploading files (something like cloud storage but not exactly)

I am on 100Mbps broadband and most of the time I don't have problems downloading from the server.

However, a lot of time when I try to upload something. It often starts with high speed (i.e. several Megabytes per second), but then the speed of uploading could drop drastically and quickly (i.e. to less than 200kb/s).
Very often it will stop before completion, sometimes it can resume but sometimes it can't.

what is the reason for that? poor server? or problem of my hard disk?

Is it symmetrical service like fiber or asymmetrical service like cable?

'100 mbps broadband' usually just defines downstream speed. You shouldn't see problems finishing transfers though unless either the remote end or the path in between you and the server is having issues.

Who is your internet provider? As beers said, if you have Cable your service is typically advertised in terms of download speed, with maybe 10% of that being your upload speed.

Hi, It's a broadband in Hong Kong with high reputation. I don't know about the type of connection, but I'm probably sure that it's NOT fiber. I connect a LAN-cable like stuff directly from the wall to my desktop PC and no username or password is required for connection.

Anyway to solve the problems??
Uploading speed provided should be the same as the downloading speed (I've called the CS about that...)

Unless you have fiber, it's highly unlikely you are supposed to get the same upload speed. Look at your modem, what type of cable is coming out of your modem into the wall? Is it coax, RJ11, or fiber?

hi

I am used to uploading something to a remote server for quite some time.

the service provider should be reputable and reliable, and my uploading speed used to be 1-2 MB/s for a file and 4 files can be uploaded simultaneously . Recently, it almost always stops all my uploads in the midway (sometimes 1% sometimes 99%), or the speed drops quickly in the first few minutes (from 1MB/s to 100kb/s)

I have removed the router, it's wired connection though. I have also disabled the AntiVirus but it is not improved.

Can I know what 's likely to be the reason ?? hard drive problems for READ part? broadband speed problem??

Remote server problem/restriction??

Thank you for any advice.

Hi

Do you mean that for cable connection it could be that the downloading speed is a lot faster than uploading speed ?? And it has nothing to do with the remote server?

As far as I understand,
Downloading is ''write'' to HDD
Uploading is ''read'' to HDD

How come the speed has such difference on the same cable and same network environment?

There is no modem between my desktop PC and the wall. There is only a LAN port on the wall of my flat and the lan wire connects directly from the wall LAN outlet to my desktop PC

There is a difference between data to and from your LAN and from the WAN (internet). Downloading it from a remote host to your local host, and uploading is from your local host to a remote host. The speed is different not on the cable itself, but on the service used. Cable internet has limited number of channels, and as more people download than upload, cable providers provision their infrastructure for more download bandwidth, hence cable plans have lower upload speeds than downloads. Fiber is symmetrical so download and upload speeds can be the same.

If you don't have your own modem, it sounds like the building your flat is in shares an internet connection and has their own infrastructure someplace. If that's the case, how do you know you are supposed to get 100/100 speeds?
