From Rear Power Supply to Top Fan Power Supply

Hey guys,

I'm relatively new to the art of building computers
I have a hp pavilion p6731a http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c02792343

Recently I decided to replace the gpu with a gtx 750 low profile asus which required at least a 500 W power supply. So stupidly I bought a top fan thermaltake power supply and placed it at the old power supply's slot. This made it so my power supply lasted 4 months and died. So the computer store gave me another one but

I'm confused as to how it should be placed. My only ideas are to drill a hole at the roof of my case or to get a new case that allows bottom mounted power supplies.

Any suggestions?

Usually power supplies can be mounted either way because they have screw holes for either. Which exact model number power supply did you get? The 750 doesn't need 500 watts, 430 watts would be fine.

I also want to add that a 500W PSU is only needed for the GTX 750 Ti/non-Ti if you run a 300W CPU (you don't).
The GPU itself uses about 75W, while some models can go up to 90W with added power.
Edit: Seeing as your PC comes with a 250W PSU, it's still a good thing you upgraded it :D
