This happens more often in the past week. When I turned on my Asus X205TA, the network icon has a red star indicating it is not connected. When I clicked on the icon to see if there is any network (there are a few indeed), the panel said no network available.
I went into Device Manager and found that the Network Adapter (Broadcom 802.11abgn Wireless SDI0 Adapter) has a yellow exclamation. I tried updating the driver and it said the driver is updated. But the yellow mark remains. I tried uninstalling it and then reboot. It was reinstalled, but the yellow mark was still there and there is no network found.
I messed around with it by reinstalling the driver (I forgot exactly what I did) and finally the icon's red star vanished and it found networks to connect.
I am not comfortable with the hit or miss.
What do I need to do if it happens again next time?
