Upgrading only the video card advice please

Hey, I have a fairly old computer but the main thing stopping me from playing the latest games is the latest directX version support. Tried to install Advanced Warfare but kept getting directX failures.

I'm wondering if only upgrading my video card to a GTX 970 will create any major issues?
And will only the video card upgrade fix my directX issues?

Here are my Specs;
i7 920 @2.67GHz
ASUS P6T WS Pro socket 1366 LGA
RAM - 12 gig
GTX 260 4gig
ASUS
win7 ultimate 64-bit

like i said, its an old system, maybe 8 or 9 years now.

Either bad video driver or an actual direct x issue. Try running the diagnostic here.

ran that and 'no problems found'.
saw that the gtx 260 only supported upto directX 10 so thats probably the main cause.

just bought a msi gtx 970 so that should solve any issues....hopefully!

Advanced Warfare requires DX11, so that should fix the problem.
