New Computer Advice

Hi all,

I currently have a Lenovo H330 but am looking to upgrade it for Christmas. Max budget £400 but less would be beneficial.

My Lenovo is a good machine but there is no external graphics card and so I am unable to play lots of the games that I would like to.

Are there any computers you'd reccomend?
I have found http://www.freshtechsolutions.co.uk...raphics.html?gclid=CN7P5aytu8kCFWQUwwod0EsL6w and http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Ultra_FX_Elite so far.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack

There seems to be gazillion of different Lenovo H330 machines. So what are specs?

Without knowing exactly what parts are there, I recommend that you just put external graphics card and upgrade PSU and/or switch to better case if necessary.

Those systems you listed are quite bad for gaming.

Thanks for your reply. I have looked into upgrading my H330 but was told that an external graphics card would require a new power supply, which could then result in the machine overheating.

I am now looking at a higher budget and have come across a Dell machine. Dell have always been an unreliable brand in my mind, but I wondered what you guys think? http://www.johnlewis.com/dell-xps-8900-desktop-pc-intel-core-i7-16gb-2tb-32gb-ssd/p2341304#tooltip

The stats certaintly seem pretty good.

Alternatively at that price range is the Asus M32CD http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/compu...p-pcs/asus-m32cd-desktop-pc-10137478-pdt.html
but the kit on that seems significantly worse.

Any opinions appreciated.

Those machines are bad for gaming.

Dell machine: average GPU, low voltage processor (makes no sense on tower desktop), 32GB SSD is VERY small. 16GB memory is nice but 8GB is enough for gaming and that extra memory comes at cost.

Asus machine is worse than Dell, yes.

So problem is what? Buy new case (no overheating problem), new PSU and external graphics. You'll get much better gaming machine than buying any of those. And it should stay on original budget. It requires some skill to swap parts to different case tough.

What is that Lenovo H330 exact model or what parts inside?

Are there any machines around that price range which you would reccomend?

The advice I have on my H330 is from a local computer guy who contacted Lenovo to check. I am not very experienced and don't want to start messing around with my existing machine.

If you really don't want to mess with your old machine and want to buy fully assembled solution, then that first system http://www.freshtechsolutions.co.uk...raphics.html?gclid=CN7P5aytu8kCFWQUwwod0EsL6w

looks somewhat OK. You did notice it does not have operating system? Second system http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Ultra_FX_Elite has operating system included and price is good.

You can get much better gaming machine just swapping old parts to new case and add new PSU+GPU. If not possible, then either of those two systems should be much better for gaming than E330 is.

Thank you.
However, if I double my budget to about £700, can I get a machine that's any better (the price of the Dell machine)? I couldn't find many machines for that price that looked any better, but then I thought the Dell machine looked a lot better so I know zulch :D

Very few OEM machines (like Dell) are good for gaming. For £700, that shop http://www.freshtechsolutions.co.uk/build-your-own-pc.html

offers quite a lot choices. Example http://i63.tinypic.com/2v3lcp1.jpg

Far from perfect but Dell has no chance against that one on gaming.

OK cheers. That spec looks good, it's great to have somebody in the know design a spec since I only guess what's good when I try.

Thanks again

Jack, I recently put together a more than capable system for a family member for about £450 which is able to play any and every game out at the moment.

If you are able to build a PC yourself, or at least willing to learn if you don't know already, we can piece it together for you and get you worth something much better for your money.

Where about in the UK are you?
