To start my pc set up is a e4400 2.2Ghz overclocked to 3.0Ghz, 4GB of ocz ram, and of course the 9600 GSO 512Mb, xfx 680i LT, and ubuntu 14.04 by all means I know this machine is out of date old and dusty but I just want to thinker with overclocking before my new one is finished just to have some more knowledge of safe ways to go about it. Where I really want to get some more is out of the video card what settings am I looking to change for that?

Start out with the program MSI afterburner, and begin with the core clock, bumping by 10-20mhz at a time and testing for stability in game. If you see a problem, or 'artifact', it's important to turn the clock back until the artifacts disappear.

Rinse and repeat for the memory speed, testing after each bump in speed. the 9600gso will likely have be able to achieve overclocks of 15-20% on core and memory. I would leave the voltage alone, myself.
