so Im wanting to buy a new graphics card because the one i have cant even play the most simple games without lagging, the thing is that i dont know how to tell weather a graphics card is suitable or not for my pc. My mother board is a
Asus M5A78L-M/USB3
and when i go on the specs this is what it says 'There are1 PCIe x16 slots on this motherboard. This means it is perfectly capable of accommodating the latest graphics cards, although it is important to try and use a graphics card with the same graphics card interface of PCIe v2.x' the thing is that im not sure what this means and what i need to look at when searching for graphics cards. please can someone help
Thanks

What video card do you have in there currently? What make and model of power supply do you have?

The 6450 is a low end card. What games do you play? You'll have get a new power supply as well.

Because those generic power supplies are garbage if you could post a picture of the side of the psu that has the wattage listings that would help, also include model number in picture. An R7 360 should work fine for you if all you play is csgo. I would also recommend getting the corsair cx430 power supply to replace your current one.

Well, the model number you gave me is a generic number. I would definitely replace it.

An easy way to tell if a unit is low end is if it allocates a lot of its wattage on the 3.3 or 5v rails.

What budget do you have? The M5A78L-M is a super-budget board but I didn't want to assume.

Given that you give no budget it's going to be hard to recommend anything. GTX 980 Ti perhaps? Or maybe two of them? ;)

You need a new power supply too unless you fancy having fireworks in your house.

Sorry, didn't see that.

Yeah it's '500W', but it's a low quality one so actually it is probably half of that wattage. Cheap power supply makers love to lie. ;)

100 what? Dollars? Pounds? It won't be enough for a good GPU and PSU. I'd get something like a Corsair CX500M or CX600M now and buy a better graphics card a little later. The PSU is very important. You have a bad heart or clogged arteries, you have a heart attack or a stroke and you could die or be disabled for life. You have a bad power supply in your PC and your PC could die or parts could be permanently damaged.

like i asked in the queston when im buying a graphics card, how do i know if it will fit or not?

As long as its a pci express card it will work with your motherboard. However, check length of card to verify you have enough room in your case. Not sure what case you have.
