Hi!! I have a Old Dell Precision 650 with 2 CPU slots. The Precision 650 came with a Xeon with only 1 core! I wish to upgrade it to two quad-core Xeon processors. Can it handle it?? Thanks!

Greetings,

Maybe, but that thing isn't worth the electricity it will take to run them :)

Which specific CPUs did you have in mind?

I was thinking about using the motherboard for a computer build. I was thinking about using a pair of these CPUs Xeon E7440 2.40GHz Quad Core SLG9J Processor Socket 604

That machine runs DDR (yes DDR. Not DDR2, 3, or 4) up to 266Mhz. People rode their triceratops to the Dell distributor to buy those when they came out. (2001? 2002?) When that thing came out, Fred Flintstone picked one up in his foot powered stone car with brontosaurus ribs tied to the roof. :D It is beyond obsolete. It is a paperweight.:p

Even a very affordable modern system for a couple hundred dollars would blow that machine away. :cool:The only reason anybody would run it at this point would be a collector with a case of nostalgia.

It is not compatible with any multicore processors.
