How much RAM do I need for ideal gaming?

Hi there. I just bought a new computer (sig), and I could only afford 8GB until pay day. I'm just wondering for the next year or two if 16GB is going to be enough for max settings on games. I wouldn't worry about commenting on my video card as I will be upgrading that, just wondering as recently the recommend amount of RAM has gone to 16GB and 8GB used to plenty for a long time. The thing is too, is if I buy another 8GB of RAM I will have to completely replace my RAM.. as in replace two sticks to get 24GB of RAM, or replace all 4 to get 32GB, so if I'll need more than 16 any time soon I would rather spend the extra money to get 16 totaling 24GB so I don't have to replace it later. Thanks.

I derped. They only had a PC17000 single stick and I wanted a higher speed as RAM slows down to the slowest stick in the computer.

I honestly don't notice much of a difference between 8->32

16 GB for gaming should be good for a while.

Since you have DDR4 you can also upgrade to 16GB/stick densities.

Most you can do on that board is 32GB (8GB sticks x 4) thats what I would say to max it out, but really 16GB (8GB x 2) is enough for todays tasks.

On a side note, awesome to see you got the new gear we discussed!! That board is awesome!!!

EDIT: Hangs head in shame..its my inferior Z97 chipset making me say these things

Yes the max on this motherboard is 64GB, and thanks yeah it just really sucks having 8GB of RAM, Battlefield 1 is actually running worse than my old computer did right now. But when I edit audio the I7 sure kicks #@#$!

Also I was having issues recording BF1 and now it records just fine so that means that my fx6300 was too weak for it.

haha now that's a business mind right there :). I asked my roommate if he feels sorry for me being broke after buying a new computer and he laughed and said no. I would have done the same thing.
