My desktop specs-
  • 3.6GHz Intel Core i7-6850K processor with 15MB L3 cache
  • Windows 10 operating system
  • 2TB SATA hard drive
  • 240GB solid state drive
  • 16GB DDR4 system memory; expandable to 128GB
  • 24x SuperMulti DVD/CD player/burner
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics
  • Has 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet, 10 USB ports, HDMI output, DVI port and headphone/microphone jack
So I wanted to get a 144Hz monitor but a friend told me I may get screen tearing. So does this mean my best bet is to buy a 60Hz monitor or can my desktop handle the 144hz?
I was thinking about connecting two monitors.
27"-32"
anyone know the best option for my desktop?

I play on a 4K Asus 28"/1ms monitor @ 2560x1440 60hz with a GTX 1080 it pretty much maxes all games, and there is no tearing, stuttering etc. The monitor isn't a g-sync panel either. I know that didn't really answer your question, but this setup performs very well.

If you really want to jump to 144hz panel, I'd recommend spending the money on one with G-Sync technology, (unfortunately, they all command a high price still) but they pair beautifully with the GTX 1080, which I see you also own!

Depends what you want to do.

I personally think multiple monitors together looks dumb. I could never play games with a bar in the middle of my view, that just looks stupid and I see no redeeming value in doing so.

As for the monitors you listed, the first looks the only one that is a 144hz panel, again, if that is necessary - I sure don't see a need. Also only 1080p

The other 2 are okay, but neither are 144hz, and the acer looks cheap to me.

I've had good luck with Asus monitors, but I only use a single monitor. It's an Asus PB287Q, not sure if they still sell them, but its been rock solid paired with the GTX 1080

Yeah, once I got the GTX 1080, at 2560x1440 it is virtually buried at 60. A game like Witcher 3 plays flawlessly, maxed out.

Now when it comes to the full 4K (3840x2160), the single 1080, I don't care what anyone says, it will not max out a game like Witcher 3 and play at 60 steady, just wont happen...other games ..its debatable too..depends on many settings and factors.

I use the 4K capability for movie watching, 4K streaming like netflix and amazon.

There is probably a newer model with those specs out now, I got this monitor like 2 years ago now...again, I dont have g-sync nor is it a 144hz monitor and its suitable for me.

EDIT: In my humble opinion, 1440p@60hz for gaming is where it's at.. pretty much the sweet spot in my eyes for performance and smooth play!!

So On a 4k monitor, I can set my games to play at 2560x1440, however for other tasks like movies I can watch them in 4k.
Thanks so much for the help and for the information. It was a ton of help!!

Yeah, you can do whatever you choose.. you can play at 1080p on a 4K if you want. You'll end up finding the right settings for your eyes and what works best in your environment.

No problem, stick around the forum and ask lots and be sure to post back with whatever you end up picking for yourself!

I'll be sure to do so. Right now I'm thinking for my main monitor I'll use
ASUS PB287Q 28" 4K/UHD 3840x2160 1ms
Seems like the better one for gaming even more so because I can just drop the settings if needed. and then for my second monitor for I'll use.
ASUS VG278HV 27" Full HD 1920x1080
Since It will just be for basic guides and google search.

I'll be sure to come back and post a photo once I get it set-up. anyway, thanks again and have a great day!!

You can adjust the resolution of any monitor, either in game or from Windows settings, so don't be stuck on one monitor or another. I think there is a newer version of my monitor available too, check out newegg and other sites..might be deals on still?!

Sorry to ask another question, But this is the desktop I have. Do I need to perform any maintenance for the liquid cooling? I know to clean the desktop with canned air but anything I need to do for liquid cooling. I read online If I have 100mm no maintenance is needed but if it's higher I need to add coolant. I have no clue what's needed haha.

Really sorry for all the confusion on my part. Coming over from my ps4 where it's just plug and play with 30-40 fps ;P.
PC gaming is much better and much more powerful but got to learn a lot or well feels like it.

Honest truth, I have little liquid cooling expertise. In addition, I'd assume those members on here that do might need more info, or a picture of the loop.. not 100% sure man!! sorry

EDIT: After looking at some pictures Im wondering if its a closed loop cooler, meaning maintenance free. Do you have a pump and reservoir somewhere in the case? Or does it just seem like a block on the processor with tubes going to a fan/radiator in the rear of the case?

A question, since when is 2560 x 1440 considered 4k?

I never said its 4K. I said I have a 4K monitor, on which I play @ 2560 x 1440 res

In fact, my 3rd post I mention full 4K res (3840x2160) capability. I guess if we wanna get real technical thats not even true 4K resolution..but anyway...
