Well it doesn't have to run much, of course Windows itself would probably take a good chunk of it. Well, here's another one I found, AMD 2.2GHz Dual-Core: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214427

Quicken is an accounting software. It and Excel don't require much resources. Here's another laptop worth looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214395 I always use and recommend Toshiba laptops, I've never had a problem with them. It doesn't say whether it has...

    Laptop gone really slow.

Unfortunately I can't think of anything that would do that. I can suggest a few ideas on how to improve the performance, but beyond that I simply don't know. :(

    Laptop gone really slow.

You've ran virus scans with your normal AV and Malware Bytes correct? One thing I might look at is go to the Task Manager and see if there's some program hogging up processing time and/or a lot of RAM. It seems odd that it'd just suddenly start going slow. But I can't really think of anything...

Factory restore laptop with broken screen?

You could possible look in the laptop's CMOS settings. Usually there's an option whether to use the internal or external monitor or both.

Did you do anything before hand that might have slowed it down? Maybe installing a program or something like that?

Mozilla to make their own mobile version of Chrome OS?

You're right, that was my mistake. And I do agree with you on the whole cloud apps topic. With most major carriers having limits on data, for heavy users it would be a huge hindrance. In my opinion, I don't particularly like the whole "cloud" idea. I'm a security nut so to me it seems like a...

Hooking a PC up to a TV.

Well, one thing you can do is make sure you get a TV with S-Video inout as well as a 3.5mm audio input jack (the one on mine is next to the HDMI input). I have the same setup for my home server but it uses a D-sub connection instead of S-Video or DVI. Most TVs will have at least an S-Video, and...

    ie8

I was fixing a computer just yesterday where IE would always crash for no apparent reason. I installed Firefox and the problem was fixed. I ran a virus scan and nothing came up. So it could very well be that IE simply hates you :P like it does so many others. I know it hates me.

Need a router to monitor individual WAN usage

I don't know of any routers that log bandwidth by MAC address, my router which runs DD-WRT can log bandwidth, but it's the total of all the devices on my network. I know that's not exactly what you were looking for, but it's a start.

Mozilla to make their own mobile version of Chrome OS?

I feel the market is already too crowded with OSes like this. Chrome, the spectrum of Linuxes, it's too much. I like Firefox and all, I use it on every PC I own plus recommend it to people, but they need to take their own unbeaten path. I like the new Firefox, I enjoy the simplicity of it...

friend looking into buying/building a server for web hosting

I run a LAMP server with Ubuntu. I find it fairly easy to manage after it's been initially setup. But like an earlier post stated it also depends on how much traffic his site's going to get. That will affect not only the number of servers and clusters but also what kind of computer he'll have to...

Laptop does not boot to Windows and wish to move to Windows 7

My manufacture's recovery discs don't require a key. I'm using Toshiba neither, did my mom's old comp and she used HP. And generally no, the OS has nothing to do with the fans.
