New Op System? HP Pentium dual core Windows vista HD DOA

If you have the key itself for the Windows 8, you can activate Windows 10 with it. Did it recently with Windows 7 keys as well. Just install the correct version (Home, Pro etc). For such an old system, you pretty much don't need to worry about drivers. Just run Windows Update and you're good to go.

    Will my psu work

If it's a decent 420W it will run those parts with no issue. I ran a i5-3570 and HD 6950 2GB on a Corsair CX430 for years.

    Monitor intermittent "black out"

Windows PCs waking themselves up from sleep has been an issue for a trillion years, roughly. The RAM resetting to default speeds to me indicates that your PC crashes, or crashed once at least. Whenever I stand up at work one of my monitors will turn off for a second or two due to static...

Windows 11 is making my computer redundant. Do I need replacement software or a new computer?

Not to derail this thread to a Win11 vs. 10 discussion, but: Oldest version of the OS that still supports the latest update: Windows 11 275 days = 276MB Windows 10 624 days = 695MB One big update per year vs. two? I guess that's a plus, but you're still gonna be installing normal updates at the...

Windows 11 is making my computer redundant. Do I need replacement software or a new computer?

Windows 10 had reasons to migrate to over Windows 7, when 7 became EOL. Windows 11 does not. Maybe it will, maybe it will be Windows 12. But for now 10 is practically the same as 11.

Replace Win11 with W10 or W7 in new HP Pavilion possible?

After running Windows Update until it says you're good, I'd recommend installing the newest chipset drivers from AMD. And maybe run Snappy Driver Installer afterwards for network, audio and storage.

Help with OC: Core 2 Duo + old GA motherboard

I saw 12.5x266 and screenshots of RAM at almost 3x its rated speeds, so just went through the BIOS pictures to jog my memeory and wrote the list of how I wanted it to look. 100MHz pcie freq is a thing from Sandy Bridge and onwards afaik

Help with OC: Core 2 Duo + old GA motherboard

If you mostly just want your CPU to run at 3.33GHz as advertised, here's what I would set: CPU Clock Ratio: 10 Fine CPU Clock Ratio: +0 (dont use 0.5) OC FSB1333: Disabled CPU Host Clock Control: Enabled CPU Host Frequency: 333 PCI Express Frequency: Auto System Memory Multiplier: Whatever...

    Computer Boots Directly to Windows

Are you selecting the UEFI reboot option? To make sure (might vary a bit from Windows 10 versions, but endpoint should be the same): Open CMD (Start button+R, type "cmd") -> type "shutdown -r -O -t 0" -> Pick Advanced Options -> Pick UEFI Firmware Settings -> Restart This should kick you...

    Stopping dam windows 10 updates

I've never ever had my OnePlus5 update the OS by itself, always manual, and it's configured to update apps automatically when on WiFi+charging. Good enough for me, since a phone is very different. I'd like to believe that I'm somewhat aware of my actions, so unless you had a broad mass attack...

    Stopping dam windows 10 updates

Remember when you could choose an option called "Never check for updates" allowing you have to full control of when, what and where? 1MB/1sec was obiously exaggerated. My major issue with Win10 Update is the lack of control. I don't have issues with Windows Update on a daily basis, because I...

    Stopping dam windows 10 updates

People have different definitions of the word "issue" I guess. For me it's an issue if Windows Update uses 1MB RAM in the background or delays a restart by 1 second, without me having asked for it. That's completely disregarding all the actual issues people have with, for example, deleting your...

    Stopping dam windows 10 updates

First, but optional, run Windows 10 Debloater: https://codeload.github.com/Sycnex/Windows10Debloater/zip/master It will remove some pre-installed apps, enable .NET 3 and other small QoL fixes. Second, after a reboot, run Shutup10: https://dl5.oo-software.com/files/ooshutup10/OOSU10.exe My...

Win 7 has edge popup window

If you have installed any Windows updates in 2020 or maybe even the later half of 2019, there's a good chance Microsoft sneaked in some Edge ads. It's a terrible practice but it is how is :s It's kind of funny, because since Windows 10 has become the bloatmonster it is, there's many good tools...

    Core2 Quad overclock not working?

To give an example of my old Q6600 with DDR2 667MHz RAM: Multiplier is locked at max 9 FSB (CPU frequency) is default 266MHz 266MHz * 9 = 2400MHz / 2.4GHz I have it overclocked to 3GHz: Raise the FSB to 333MHz, so now it's 333MHz * 9 = 3000MHz / 3.0GHz But this in turn raises my RAM speed to...

(SOLVED) Will I be able to control these fans?

Should be just fine, but you shouldn't use more than two fans per 3-pin generally. A 3-pin fan header is 12V and usually around 1A (±0.2A), but this specific motherboard has a 2A since it's a combo for a waterpump, and the biggest Fractal fans including RGB will use 0.4A. As for controlling the...

    Ryzen2 3000 Series Specs Revealed

Intels definition of TDP: Thermal Design Power (TDP) represents the average power, in watts, the processor dissipates when operating at Base Frequency with all cores active under an Intel-defined, high-complexity workload. That gives us these numbers: i7-7800X, 6C/12T - 140W TDP (197W...

    Ryzen2 3000 Series Specs Revealed

TDP has been rather useless since 2006, but exactly as you also point out, a six-core at 3.8/4.4GHz is supposedly pretty much the same TDP as a 12-core with 3.8/4.6Ghz I hate TDP with a passion, and wish we could make something like their ACP an industry standard and required. Power consumption...

    Ryzen2 3000 Series Specs Revealed

Has anyone seen any technical difference between the 3700X and 3800X? A difference of 40W TDP can't surely be down to binning and a few hundres MHz. Granted TDP is rather useless as a measurement, but the 12core is also 105W with a higher boost and almost same base.
